JUST IN: Hurricanes QB Judd Anderson Explores Transfer Options, Cites Need for ‘New Challenge

University of Miami Hurricanes quarterback Judd Anderson has announced his decision to explore transfer options, citing a need for a new challenge. The junior signal-caller, who started several games for the Hurricanes last season, revealed his intentions through a statement on social media.

“After careful consideration and discussions with my family, I’ve decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal,” Anderson wrote. “I appreciate the opportunities I’ve had at Miami, but I feel it’s time for me to explore new possibilities and take on a fresh challenge.”

Anderson’s decision comes as a shock to Hurricanes fans, who had high hopes for the quarterback’s continued growth and development. Last season, Anderson threw for 1,832 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions, while also rushing for 234 yards and 2 scores.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal addressed Anderson’s decision during a press conference.

“Judd is a talented quarterback, and we’re saddened to see him go,” Cristobal said. “However, we understand his desire for a new challenge and wish him the best in his future endeavors. We’ll continue to support him throughout this process.”

Cristobal acknowledged the impact Anderson’s departure will have on the team’s quarterback depth.

“We’ll evaluate our current roster and explore options through the transfer portal to ensure we’re well-equipped for the upcoming season,” Cristobal said.

In an exclusive interview, Anderson elaborated on his decision.

“I love the University of Miami, and I’m grateful for the experiences I’ve had here,” Anderson said. “But I feel like I’ve plateaued, and I need a change of scenery to grow as a quarterback. I want to challenge myself in a new system, face new defenses, and develop my skills further.”

Anderson denied rumors of any discord with the coaching staff or teammates.

“This decision has nothing to do with Coach Cristobal or my teammates,” Anderson emphasized. “It’s purely about my personal growth and aspirations.”

Anderson’s entry into the transfer portal has sparked widespread interest from Power Five programs seeking experienced quarterback depth. Potential destinations include:

  • Alabama Crimson Tide
  • Georgia Bulldogs
  • Ohio State Buckeyes
  • USC Trojans
  • Texas Longhorns

Anderson’s departure leaves the Hurricanes with uncertainty at the quarterback position. Redshirt freshman QB Tyler Van Dyke and true freshman QB Jacurri Brown are expected to compete for the starting role.

“Tyler and Jacurri have shown promise, and we’re confident in their abilities,” Cristobal said. “We’ll work diligently to prepare them for the upcoming season.”
