Houston Astros owner Jim Crane has announced a comprehensive rebranding of the franchise, including a new team name, logo, and colors. The overhaul, set to debut in the 2025 season, marks a significant departure from the team’s 57-year history.

Crane, who purchased the team in 2011, cited the need for a modernized image and increased brand recognition. “We’re excited to usher in a new era of Astros baseball,” Crane said. “Our fans deserve a fresh, dynamic look that reflects the city’s vibrant energy.”

The team’s new name, the Houston Stars, pays homage to Texas’s nickname, “The Lone Star State.” The moniker aims to broaden the team’s appeal and emphasize its connection to the city and state.

“We want our name to resonate with fans across Houston and beyond,” Crane explained. “The Stars name embodies the spirit of Texas and our commitment to shining bright on the national stage.”

The new logo features a stylized, five-pointed star, incorporating elements of the Texas state flag. The primary colors will shift from the current navy blue, orange, and white to a bold palette of celestial blue, silver, and neon green.

“Our new logo and colors will make us stand out in the league,” said Astros’ executive vice president, Reid Ryan. “We’re embracing the future while honoring our rich history.”


The team will unveil new uniforms, featuring the Stars logo and color scheme, in the coming weeks. Fans can expect a range of merchandise, from jerseys to hats and collectibles.



Current players, including All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve, expressed enthusiasm about the rebrand. “I love the new look,” Altuve said. “It’s exciting to be part of this new chapter.”

Alumni, such as Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, offered mixed reactions. “I understand the desire for change, but I’ll always cherish the Astros’ legacy,” Ryan said.
